AMBACHT IN BEELD AMSTERDAM 2019
September 27 - 29, 2019
I gave the keynote address and taught woodcarving workshops at the 6th annual craft festival Ambacht in Beeld ("Craft in Focus"), in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

CRAFT IN FOCUS NEW YORK 2019
May 18 - 20, 2019 (Industry City, Brooklyn)
I offered beginner's carving workshop each day of the festivals and otherwise demonstrated woodcarving and showed my art.  My workshops are for adults, but I always welcome families and kids to get a sense of what involved during my demos - I love to let kids try their hands (with a parent's permission) at cutting the wood.

2018 To Current:  I designed and carved the SCOUT AND GEM DOLLS used for the Broadway hit
To Kill a Mockingbird.  My version of Boo Radley's carved dolls of Scout and Jem (which he hides as a gift for them in the bole of a tree) are those you see on the stage of Aaron Sorkin and Bartlett Sher's current Broadway hit.  What an honor to have my work gazed at and held every performance by performers like Jeff Daniels, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, Celia Keenan-Bolger, Gideon Glick and Will Pullen.

Ongoing Exhibition at THE SOUTH STREET SEAPORT MUSEUM, NYC
My museum copy of a fragment of ornamental molding with frolicing dolphins (originally installed in the RMS Mauretania in the early 1900s) is still on view at the Museum's current exhibit: "Millions: Migrants and Millionaires About the Great Liners 1900-1914"

A nice slideshow of me copying the panels is here.

For two years I continued working on the copy during weekly demonstrations at the museum's Maritime Craft Center, where I and others demonstrated our crafts to museum visitors (The Craft Center is sadly defunct as the museum repurposed the room that housed the Center in 2019):

KIEHL'S SOAP CARVING DEMO
March 31, 2017
I pre-carved about 120 Kiehl's soaps for the company's guests, then demonstrated soap-carving during a fun Kiehl's Mens Products launch in Soho.  I stared at a lot of men's noses and beards during my subway commute that week.  Apologies, guys. It was purely professional.
